Integrity Fizzante Style 2011

65% Chardonnay / 35% Pinot Gris

The idea of making a frizzante wine was to have a fresh, crisp white wine with soft bubbles. With avoiding the second fermentation (less yeast contact), the wine is younger and boosts with fruit flavours. Notes of pear and green apple combined with soft citrus on the nose. The palate explodes with honey, pineapple and more exotic fruit.

50% Dunkelfelder / 40% Pinot Gris / 10% Syrah

Winemaking technique: 24 hour Skin contact. The goal is to keep as much natural fermentation in the wine. Wonderful freshness and bright acidity, the palate is jammed with wild strawberry and cherry flavours. Hints of cedar box, wine bares some tannins making this a delicious food wine. 100% Pinot Meunier

Reddish pink hue with a violet rim. Hints of cedar box and red berries on the nose. A wicked mouth-watering roller coaster of concentrated juicy pink grapefruit. Cherry/tart cherry and wild strawberry abound... all aboard! Off dry but with great acidity.

I’ve never quite understood the claim that certain things are “The Best of...” any given year. Unless we are talking about judging like against like, one can’t very well say that a certain Oatmeal Stout is better than a certain IPA. How about the latest collection of arias by Anna Netrebko against the newest Rihanna warblings? Or one of thousands of German Rieslings, beating out thousands of California Cabernets, as best wine? In what universe?

Yet these assertions are routinely made in various media and uncritically, we’re content to gobble them up. So to change things a little I present a more reasonable list of Most Memorable Beer that we carried at Viti Wine & Lager this past year.
